Royal Brotherhood of Saint Sebastian Oath
As in any manor worthy of the name, Marbais had in the Middle Ages, a remarkable body of archers. The adoption of firearms, in the sixteenth century, this company took its military importance; it was transformed into a corporation soon accreditation shooting and, as such gave great joy which participated the whole bourgeoisie. Lancelot, Lord of Marbais from 1559 to 1592, granted him a settlement denominated “Deed of Pledge erection of Saint Sebastian”. This institution took the name of “Oath” because at the time of its incorporation in society, each member had to promise under oath – to fulfill the duties imposed on him by its mission to exercise regularly in the use of arc – to serve as protector to the relic of the Holy Cross, during his travels through the land of the Lord. The origin of the “Oath” can be traced back to the second half of the 16th century.
